At Iristrace we want to do our part in the fight against COVID-19 that has worried us all so much in recent weeks.

In this post we are going to give you some basic cleaning recommendations to ensure that all surfaces that we are in contact with are properly disinfected.

Before continuing, we want to inform you that all the information contained in this post has been extracted from various sources, including the World Health Organization (WHO), which we recommend consulting in case of doubt.

To assess the importance of cleaning at this time, it is important to know how long the virus survives on what surfaces. According to a recent study that has been published in The New England Journal of Medicine, after tests carried out by control centers, national institutes and universities; It has been determined how long the virus remains in everyday household and hospital materials, when an infected person comes into contact with them, either by coughing or touching these objects.

As a summary, we can find the survival time of the virus in the following table:

Aerosols (airbone particles)3 hours
Copper (present in objects like coins)4 hours
Paperboard24 hours
PlasticUp to 72 hours
Stainless SteelUp to 72 hours

Knowing these data and knowing that any of us have these surfaces in our work spaces, we can assess the importance of maintaining proper hygiene on all surfaces.

What advice are the official organisms giving in this regard?

Both in our own homes and in workplaces, we can follow the recommendations given by the WHO, to maintain proper hygiene of all surfaces, especially if we are aware of or feel that we may have been in contact with someone infected:

  • Clean all surfaces with a disinfecting solution, according to the recommendations made by health.
  • Wash the textile garments in complete cycles, with a temperature above 60ºC (140ºF).
  • As far as possible, use the appropriate personal protective equipment depending on the level of risk (gloves, mask …), and dispose of them safely and wash our hands afterwards.
  • Ensure the correct operation of toilets and taps.
  • Verify that the correct dosage of chemical products and that the washing temperature of the dishwasher is above 80ºC in the rinse cycle.
  • If we have air conditioning, keep it at a temperature between 23 and 26ºC.
